On the Italian border, Menton is the 'Pearl of France' with its pastel ochre, pink and yellow façades cascading down to the port. The Saint-Michel-Archange Basilica dominates the bay, the old town smells of lemon, and February brings the world-famous Fête du Citron.

Medieval village suspended 427 metres above the sea. Stone alleys, artisan shops, and at the top the Jardin Exotique — 360° view stretching to Italy on a clear day. We stop at the Fragonard perfumery mid-slope: free guided workshop tour and scent tasting.
